Looking for Shotgun range volunteers or will be closed for January and February

Hello, Friends!

Last month the club announced that we are in need of volunteers to help with the trap/skeet program. Unfortunately, we were unable to find any. As a result, the shotgun range will be closed the months of January and February. If we are unable to acquire help starting in March, then it may be necessary to alter the number of times per month that the range is open. If you would like to find out more information about assisting with the trap/skeet range please contact the club president at club_president@scfcvt.org.

Thanks,
Kurt Eckert
SCFC President

Civilian Marksmanship Program in Vermont September 16-22 2019

Friend --

CMP New England Games - 9/16-9/22

2005_VTMatch_05.jpg

Okay folks, we are rapidly approaching the 2019 CMP New England Games, which runs from 9/16 - 9/22; this event will be held at Camp Ethan Allen Training Site (CEATS), also known as Ethan Allen Firing Range (EAFR) which is located in Jeicho/Bolton.
If you own a Garand, 1903 Springfield, M1 Carbine, Vintage Military Bolt gun, a Modern Military Rifle, AR-15, M1A, a vintage sniper rifle, a .22 rifle or any pistols: There are a number of matches that you can sign up for!

Interested in learning how to shoot high-power competitively? There is a Small Arms Firing School (SAFS) on Thursday 9/19 that will give you that knowledge, and we will have coaches available to help you succeed!
Ever shot high-power rifle on fully electronic targets? There will be at least 30 of these targets on 2 different ranges, so matches move along fast and there is no pit service needed.

Food and onsite lodging is available by prearrangement, and if you don't know about CEATS/EAFR, it is one of the premier ranges in the NE.

If you are a firearm supporter, then this is an event that you shouldn't miss!

This event is sponsored by the Vermont State Rifle and Pistol Association, in conjunction with the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP).and you will not only meet a very high caliber of people, you are guaranteed to have fun.
If all the above isn't enough: All competitors who attend will have access to the on-site CMP store, where you can buy M1 Garands and 30.06 ammo, along with other shooting related gear.

Tell your friends; take some time off work; and enjoy the ranges that your tax dollars have helped pay for.

Further information can be found at:
http://thecmp.org/compe…/cmp-travel-games/new-england-games/

Hope to see you there!

Important Outdoor Use Survey - Your Input is Needed

Friend --

Vermont's Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP)
is being updated!

What is the SCORP?

The SCORP is a plan which assesses the provision and need for outdoor recreation in a state. States are required to update their SCORP every five years to remain eligible to receive federal Land and Water Conservation Fund, as well the federal Recreational Trails Program funds. The plan guides outdoor recreation policies, programs and funding for projects. If you want to you can read the last SCORP  to get a sense of the type of information it gathers here:
https://fpr.vermont.gov/sites/fpr/files/Recreation/Recreation_Grants/Library/SCORP%202014-2018.pdf

How can I get involved?

1. Take the online public input survey.   The survey will be available online from August 8th- September 2nd, 2019. I did this online and it was quick and painless with opportunities to comment beyond just checking a pre-generated box.

2. Attend an open-house style public meeting:

  • Monday August 19th,  6-8 pm, Brattleboro Central Fire Station
  • Tuesday, August 27th, 6-8 pm, Thatcher Brook School Gymnasium, Waterbury

3. If you are an outdoor recreation provider (public or private entity that provides outdoor recreation services, programs or assets), please contact Jessica Savage at jessica.savage@vermont.gov or 802-249-1230 to take a provider survey.

4. Contact Jessica Savage at jessica.savage@vermont.gov or 802-249-1230 with any comments or questions.

5. Call 802-598-4551 or email amy.kelsey@uvm.edu to have a paper copy of the survey mailed to you.

I hope everyone will engage this as it will guide recreation funding to a significant degree in the coming years.

Urgent - Essex Firearms Ordinance Meeting June 17th 7pm

Friend --

      Your Attendance is needed

Even if you do not live in Essex

This Could End Shooting On Your Own Private Property Throughout Vermont!

Town of Essex Firearms Ordinance, on Selectboard Meeting, Monday, June 17 at 7 PM at Essex High School

The Town of Essex is moving forward with enacting a firearms private shooting range licensing ordinance.

This would require any person who discharges a firearm on property under their control to register their
property and maintain an insurance liability policy of at least $500,000.00.  This is not for just club ranges.

The Town wants all to certify they meet the "standards" of the NRA Range Source Book.  The NRA  clearly
states these are "guidelines" not "standards" It is a three ring binder, several inches thick, with 30 chapters:

The ordinance they seek is beyond the authority of a Vermont municipality.  24 VSA Sections 2295, 2291(8)
and 10 VSA Section 5227.  See the second attachment, starting on page two, for the potential ordinance.

If the Town of Essex enacts such an ordinance registering/licensing shooting on private property, how long
do think it will before municipalities all over the state want the same gun control ordinances.  Especially when
there  is the power to make money off people owning and safely discharging firearms on their property.

Consider wearing some item of hunter orange so to show the level of support for  gun/property owner rights.
Read the attachment, listen on Monday to one of the items on the gun control agenda in Vermont.
Important Reminder !!! No firearms are allowed on school property in Vermont, even locked in you vehicle.

24 Wating Period S.169 Vetoed - Please Thank Governor Scott

Friend --
VTFSC_Pic_5.jpeg

The Vermont Federation of Sportsman's Club applauds your activism!

On June 10, 2019 Vermont Governor Phil Scott today vetoed S.169. The bill, if passed would have enacted an ineffective 24 hour waiting period on the lawful exercising of your constitutional right of obtaining a handgun.

In the face of the current super majority in control of both the Vermont House of Representatives and Senate, this is indeed a bold move to protect the natural rights of the citizens of Vermont by the governor.

If passed S.169 almost certainly would have been a base for an expansion of further restricting our civil rights and firearms owners by the simple ongoing expansion of restrictions.

We ask you contact the governors office and thank Phil Scott for his actions on S.169. It is times like this that the governor needs to hear from residents that agree with his preserving our civil rights.

S.169 Heads To House Floor Act Now!

Stop_New_Yorking.png

Friend --

On Monday May 13th 2019 S.169 Waiting Period bill passed the house judiciary committee on a vote of 7-4, this bill now goes to the full house for reading on May 15th and full vote of the house vote on May 16th. This bill imposes a 24 hour waiting period between background check and acquisition of a handgun.

It is time to contact your representatives in the house and voice your thoughts on how this infringes on your rights.

A. Call your representatives in the house, you can find their phone number in the find my legislator directory . If they do not have a phone number listed in the directory page, call the Sergeant at Arms and have them deliver a message to your legislator asking them to personally call you back. That number is 802-828-2228

B. Talk to your legislator about what is happened, express your thoughts in a positive polite manner. Ask questions.

C. Follow up your phone calls with emails.

Here are some thoughts and questions you may consider asking your representative.

1.  Can you explain to me how the legislature has the power to infringe upon Article 16 rights when chapter 2, subsection 6 of the Vermont constitution expressly says that the legislature does not have that power?

2.  Why are article 16 and the 2nd amendment routinely and systematically viewed as inferior rights, not equal to our other individual rights?

3. Why is it politically and morally acceptable to discriminate against gun owners and treat them as 3/5th of a citizen?

4. If you support that a waiting period for me to exercise my rights is acceptable, then by the same logic you would support that Rosa parks should have been asked to wait for a later bus as a just a minor inconvenience.

5. Martin Luther King Jr. once said "A right delayed is a right denied". Please give me an example of another individual right it would be acceptable to arbitrarily delay me from exercising?

Calls Needed Now to Stop S.169

Friend --

VTFSC_Pic_5.jpeg

Alert: Status Change for S.169

As of 3:23 Sunday May 12th the agenda for House Judiciary has changed. Previously, S.169 was on the agenda with the tag of "Committee Discussion". Now the tag says: "Committee Discussion and Possible Vote".

A total of 10 minutes have been allotted in the agenda for S.169. We have three things for you to accomplish in the morning hours of Monday May 13th 2019

1.  PLEASE: Make some time Monday to make a call to the Sgt at Arms Office at (802) 828-2228, ask to leave the message "No to S.169" for Speaker Johnson.

2.  You can also ask that a second message be delivered to the House Judiciary Committee with the same message of NO to S.169!

3.  Also, please consider sending a POLITE email to her at: mjohnson@leg.state.vt.us

with a Subject line of "No to S.169".

We've come to far with this to lose at the Finish Line. Keep in mind, the legislature is not normally open for business on Mondays. This is special action on this item in the last week of the legislature.

If your not willing to protect your rights, who will?
