Friend --

CMP New England Games - 9/16-9/22

2005_VTMatch_05.jpg

Okay folks, we are rapidly approaching the 2019 CMP New England Games, which runs from 9/16 - 9/22; this event will be held at Camp Ethan Allen Training Site (CEATS), also known as Ethan Allen Firing Range (EAFR) which is located in Jeicho/Bolton.
If you own a Garand, 1903 Springfield, M1 Carbine, Vintage Military Bolt gun, a Modern Military Rifle, AR-15, M1A, a vintage sniper rifle, a .22 rifle or any pistols: There are a number of matches that you can sign up for!

Interested in learning how to shoot high-power competitively? There is a Small Arms Firing School (SAFS) on Thursday 9/19 that will give you that knowledge, and we will have coaches available to help you succeed!
Ever shot high-power rifle on fully electronic targets? There will be at least 30 of these targets on 2 different ranges, so matches move along fast and there is no pit service needed.

Food and onsite lodging is available by prearrangement, and if you don't know about CEATS/EAFR, it is one of the premier ranges in the NE.

If you are a firearm supporter, then this is an event that you shouldn't miss!

This event is sponsored by the Vermont State Rifle and Pistol Association, in conjunction with the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP).and you will not only meet a very high caliber of people, you are guaranteed to have fun.
If all the above isn't enough: All competitors who attend will have access to the on-site CMP store, where you can buy M1 Garands and 30.06 ammo, along with other shooting related gear.

Tell your friends; take some time off work; and enjoy the ranges that your tax dollars have helped pay for.

Important Outdoor Use Survey - Your Input is Needed

Friend --

Vermont's Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP)
is being updated!

What is the SCORP?

The SCORP is a plan which assesses the provision and need for outdoor recreation in a state. States are required to update their SCORP every five years to remain eligible to receive federal Land and Water Conservation Fund, as well the federal Recreational Trails Program funds. The plan guides outdoor recreation policies, programs and funding for projects. If you want to you can read the last SCORP  to get a sense of the type of information it gathers here:
https://fpr.vermont.gov/sites/fpr/files/Recreation/Recreation_Grants/Library/SCORP%202014-2018.pdf

How can I get involved?

1. Take the online public input survey.   The survey will be available online from August 8th- September 2nd, 2019. I did this online and it was quick and painless with opportunities to comment beyond just checking a pre-generated box.

2. Attend an open-house style public meeting:

  • Monday August 19th,  6-8 pm, Brattleboro Central Fire Station
  • Tuesday, August 27th, 6-8 pm, Thatcher Brook School Gymnasium, Waterbury

3. If you are an outdoor recreation provider (public or private entity that provides outdoor recreation services, programs or assets), please contact Jessica Savage at jessica.savage@vermont.gov or 802-249-1230 to take a provider survey.

4. Contact Jessica Savage at jessica.savage@vermont.gov or 802-249-1230 with any comments or questions.

5. Call 802-598-4551 or email amy.kelsey@uvm.edu to have a paper copy of the survey mailed to you.

I hope everyone will engage this as it will guide recreation funding to a significant degree in the coming years.
