RSVP dc.harveyvt@gmail.com Club Matches and Events 2 Gun Action Challenge Match - April 29, 2017 9:00AM Where: Sportsman's Club of Franklin County, St Albans Bay, St. Albans Town, VT 05481 Contact: Kurt Eckert (kurt@kurteckert.com) Description: 2-Gun Action Challenge is a form of practical shooting that uses both a rifle and a pistol. It stresses both physical activity as well as fast, accurate shooting. All stages will have both a physical activity component as well as a marksmanship component. Physical activity is an excellent way to simulate the stress that a person might undergo during a self-defense situation and is a great way to train. The match will feature multiple stages with close, medium and long range targets and will be run regardless of the weather conditions. In order to participate you will have to have, at a minimum, a 9mm or greater semi-automatic pistol or a .38 special or greater revolver. Your rifle must be centerfire and must be at least 5.56/.223. Your rifle must have a sling and your pistol must have a holster that is capable of retaining the pistol through strenuous physical activity. You should have enough reloading devices to fire 40 rounds through your rifle and 30 rounds through your pistol and a way of carrying those reloading devices. Setup for the match will begin at 8:00AM and assistance with setup and tear down is always appreciated. Thinking that last blast of snow folks were more persuaded to snowshoes, skis or ride snowmobile rather then head to the range. But looks like we have a warming spell coming up and it is that time of year for temperatures to change in our favor. After our last BOD meeting it was decided to up our exposer to the outside world so with that it was approved to expand our Monthly Newsletter participant's for informational club use. Politics and Protecting Our Rights The right to keep and bear arms, and hunting (in all forms, including trapping) face great threat. Evan Hughes, Lobbyist for the Vermont Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs. *There are more anti-hunting/shooting resources pouring into Vermont. *There are legislators who listen to the anti-hunting/shooting advocates. *Vermont legislators are being told by our opposition that the demographics of Vermont have changed and hunters/shooters are non-existent or so disinterested and ignorant that our opinions no longer matter. But the greatest threat to the hunting/shooting rights in Vermont is apathy in our ranks. There are far too many folks in our ranks who are totally unaware or unconcerned with the threats to ban or severely restrict the rights and interests of hunting/shooting in Vermont. There are far too many who are not in contact with the groups who are the advocates working for the protection of hunting/shooting rights. They are not aware when action by them is needed. There are too many folks in our ranks who fall for the divide and conquer techniques of our opposition. There are far too many who think somebody else is going to do what is needed to protect their rights. There are far too many who do not vote. Those who are not informed, not involved and do not vote have their arms wrapped around the very best way to achieve the demise of hunting/shooting in Vermont. Do not publicly speak ill of other hunting or shooting disciplines. It does not evaluate the critic to speak poorly of other types of hunting or shooting, it simply demotes all. Solidarity is important. Push apathy in the hunting/shooting ranks into being extinct. Join a hunting/shooting rights group that is active in Vermont. Take action when informed you need to when your involvement is needed. You would be amazed how few citizen contacts are needed to grab the attention of elected officials. If you talk with elected officials about issues of concern to you it is a safe bet they will check the voter check list to see if you are registered to vote and if you don't vote they can just disregard you. So, above all vote. It is so easy to vote, it can be done by Early Voter Ballot without going to the polls. Voting is a right and a duty of citizenship. Vote every time the polls are open. It is the American Way. Public Hearings Set for Otter, Muskrat Proposal Public Hearings Set for Otter, Muskrat Proposal MONTPELIER, Vt. – Three public hearings have been set by the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department and Vermont Fish and Wildlife Board to gather input on proposed changes to otter and muskrat trapping regulations. The proposal originated as a petition from a member of the public and has passed first vote by the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Board. The proposed changes would extend the otter trapping season by an additional month through the end of March to align with beaver trapping season. The proposal would also extend muskrat colony cage trap check times to 72 hours to align with the check time requirements for all other kill type traps set in aquatic environments. After receiving public comment through emails, letters and public hearings, the Board will go through two additional rounds of voting before the rule is finalized. The proposal is available for public review at vtfishandwildlife.com. Comments on the proposal can be sent to ANR.FWPublicComment@vermont.gov.
